Tomorrow, Friday May 1st, is opening day for Eastside Corner store here in Oliver (Park Drive). I think it’s safe to say that this little town is pretty excited!! Eastside is a beloved little establishment in Oliver, a place where people meet for ice cream and kids excitedly buy their favourite candies. I’ll always have a soft spot when it comes to neighbourhood corner stores. Like many kids, I grew up saving up my coins and going to the local corner store to buy candy. Eastside is definitely a step up from what I was used to, they have a great ice cream selection and make their waffle cones on site. They also serve slushies and all kinds of coffees and teas. As a customer, I appreciate the huge assortment of treats, quality drinks and ice cream, not to mention the affordable prices. Not many places still sell the assortment of 5 cent candies like Eastside does. All of the prices at Eastside include tax, making it easy for the younger ones.
Jane and Cassie Clarke (mother and daughter) bought Eastside in 2013, this is their third season operating the little shop. Eastside has been around for a very long time in Oliver. Those that have grown up in Oliver seem to have also grown up going to Eastside. Jane and Cassie are excited to see all the familiar faces that come to Eastside each season, as well as all the new faces! This year they have added a cotton candy machine to the shop as well.
Eastside’s slushies aren’t just like your average chain gas station, they’re a bit fluffier melt in your mouth goodness. Yum!
See you at Eastside!
This Saturday May 2nd, Eastside is having a Car-B-Q. Get a hotdog, small slushie and chips for $4. It’s a fundraiser for the SPCA
*I was not paid for this post or the images I took at the shop. I simply believe in small businesses, supporting local and helping to promote people doing good things. This is the first post of several that I will do to help support local shops/ businesses here in Oliver.
